Inclusive governance key to stronger democracy

The Deputy Minority Leader successful Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, has underscored the important relation of inclusive governance and gender-responsive lawmaking successful fortifying democracy.

She stressed that unfastened and inclusive parliaments were indispensable for a stronger democracy, not lone successful Ghana but besides crossed Africa.

She, therefore, urged African legislatures to prioritise legislative decisions that positively impacted citizens' lives, and promoted a much responsive and accountable governance system.

The event, held connected the theme: “Advancing sex responsive lawmaking done parliamentary, civilian nine organisations (CSOs) and citizens collaboration”,  was attended by parliamentarians and parliamentary unit from Ghana, Kenya and Togo.

It was hosted by the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) successful collaboration with parliamentary Centre and the Global Affairs of Canada nether the Inclusive Legislatures for Gender-Responsive Policies (ILGRP) projects being implemented by ACEPA and its partners successful the Parliaments of Ghana, Kenya and Togo.

Mrs Appiagyei stressed that parliaments were strongest erstwhile they engaged with the public, civilian society, and improvement partners.

“Parliaments are strongest erstwhile bridges, not walls, beryllium betwixt america and the public. Civil nine offers data, expertise, and beingness perspectives. When these forces converge, laws go fairer, budgets go much equitable, and antiauthoritarian spot deepens,” she emphasised.

 Mrs Appiagyei highlighted 3 cardinal commitments for forward-looking governance, namely structured dialog betwixt Parliament, CSOs, academia, and assemblage networks; institutionalising gender-responsive lawmaking; and ensuring that legislative decisions impacted citizens' lives.

She urged participants to permission the forum with a renewed committedness to gender-responsive policies and transformative governance.
